Hiking Route Description:
This Route starts at the CCC North Trailhead. Take the Green Trail (Cabin Trail) back towards the last cabins. Take the first good trail to the right. Descend into the West Fork canyon on the steep trail. When You get to the river turn right (downstream) on the DeSoto Scout Trail. Travel on the trail for just over a half of a mile and take a right on Emergency exit 1. This will take you up a steep trail that climbs to the ridge and back to the CCC Road. When you get to the CCC Road take another right and this will lead you back to the CCC Trailhead. The whole trail is VERY scenic and there are several swimming holes along the trail. This is a great little day hike.
Hike Description:
This will be a moderate to strenuous hike led by National Park Service staff. This will be a moderate to strenuous hike. We will be exploring the swimming holes of the DST, between DeSoto State Park and Little River Canyon National Preserve. We should hit 3-4 swimming holes in total, and end the tour with a very special place indeed.
There will be approximately 2 hours of hiking and as much swimming as you can handle.
The purpose of this hike is to promote healthy activities and to get everybody acquainted with the swimming holes on the DeSoto Scout Trail.
Admission is free.
Bring plenty of water and a sack lunch.
The terrain will be rocky, so wear sturdy footwear with good support.
If you want to bring sandals to play in the river, bring them in your bag.
You REALLY need boots to be safe on the rocky terrain.
Recommended items: hiking stick, sunscreen, camera, towel, swimming gear
We will have 2 waterproof HD Cameras for the hikers to use while playing in the river.
Most of the hike isalong the river, but the trail is rocky and some sections require you to hop over boulders and traverse rock steps. The journey out of the canyon is strenuous and will be the most difficult part.
We will meet at the DeSoto State Park Lodge parking lot, then proceed to the trailhead.
Maps of the hike will be posted in the \"Maps\" folder within the \"Photos\" section.
